Self-love Photoshoot.

Reclaim your power through photography.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story to yourself can make all the difference.

Like most women, I struggle with my body image. I have done all the diets possible. They were very effective for a while, with a lot of sacrifice, and each time I regained the weight I lost. Often, I put on even more kilos. When I look back to the old pictures of myself, I wonder why I was feeling fat/unwell then. As far as I can remember, I have had a love/hate relationship with my body. With a “non beauty standard” body shape, I started my personal journey of unconditional self love.

Photography, self-portraits especially, contributed to embrace my body*. Each time I feel down, I dive into my wardrobe, pick my best outfit, put my favourite earrings and capture my self-portrait. Sometimes, they are raw because beauty comes in different forms. This is my therapy. It boosts my morale. I don’t do it to seek validation, except maybe my own validation. Most of the time I keep the photos for myself. Occasionally, I post one photo on Instagram.

I believe portraiture can support body positivity and improve mental health. I would like to share my photography skills to help women to feel better in their body. Because, it does not matter what size you wear, you might not feel fully comfortable in your own body from time to time. Get in touch with me if you need a reminder.

Trust me, you are beautiful.

How does it work?

1. Make yourself pretty.

Wear your favourite outfit and make up.
If you don’t know where to start, I can help.

2. Let me capture you.

Candid portraits are my favourite. I will capture your natural self in an environment you feel comfortable.

3. Appreciate yourself.

The pictures are for yourself, you can share them on social media or keep them for yourself.

I am addicted to podcasts. It is my favourite way to learn and broaden my horizons.
I am sharing with you few resources that inspired me to launch this unusual project.

“Weight stigma can hurt more than just your feelings — the truth is that negative messages about weight are actually bad for your physical health.

And while constant cultural messaging about weight and body size can be hard to avoid, there are things you can do to tune out the noise and embrace your body in its current state.”

“You’ve heard of EMBRACE – but what is it (and how do you DO it)? Today’s episode features probably the biggest name in body image today – the inspiring, authentic, sparkly powerhouse and Director of the Embrace Documentary Taryn Brumfitt. Taryn vulnerably shares her personal story, we explore the often missed “how-tos” of developing an authentically positive body image, and dive deep into the relationship between body image, eating, exercise and weight management.”

The Glenn Mackintosh show

“Embrace is a social impact documentary that explores the serious issue of body loathing, inspiring us to change the way we feel about ourselves and think about our bodies. Released in 2016, this film is relevant, relatable, highly engaging – but above all life changing.

Nominated for the Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Best Documentary, Embrace has been seen by millions of people across the world and has created a ripple of positive change.

The documentary was supported by 8909 KickStarter pledgers who responded to the fundraising trailer released in 2014. The trailer has now had over 45 million views.”
